
Monte J. Schwartz, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Monte J. Schwartz, MD is a graduate of St. John's University, Saba University and the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine. He spent five years in Rochester, Minnesota, where he completed his surgical residency at the Mayo Clinic. Before relocating to Tucson, Dr. Schwartz practiced in Grinnell, Iowa for three years, where he was Chief of Surgery, Director of Bariatric Surgery, and Chair of the Cancer Teaching Conference at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center. He performed more than 2,000 operations covering a very wide scope of practice.
Dr. Schwartz is board certified by the American Board of Surgery, is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons and the Priestly Society of the Mayo Clinic. He is experienced in many fields including, but not limited to, gastroenterology, bariatrics, and endocrinology, as well as surgical procedures that include breast sentinel, node biopsy and skin cancer. Dr. Schwartz has special interest in minimally invasive approaches.
Dr. Schwartz started the Bariatric program in Tucson in 2006, and has performed over 200 Lap-bandĀ® procedures in the last year. He has performed over 700 bariatric procedures total.
